yEAR 5 AND YEAR 6 GLARAMARA RESIDENTIAL 2019

Monday 18th March 2019

We have had a great day and the weather has been a lot kinder than we expected it to be (we are all still dry!).

James (Year 6)

This morning, I woke up as quick as flash, with a beaming smile on my face. On my bedside table, the clothes that I was wearing today lay next to my lamp. I grabbed the clothes, put them on and sprinted down the stairs without breaking any bones. I ate my breakfast (Cheerios) and cleaned my teeth quicker than usual.

Brayden (Year 6)

In the middle of the two hour drive we stopped at Tebay for a quick snack. After another 45 minute drive, we stopped again at the Wild Life Centre and did a lot of things, including talking to birds, looking at wildebeest and we even got to feel few reptiles’ skin.

Bryony (Year 5)

We finished unpacking, but it was time for tea. During tea our headteacher told terrible jokes. Then we got told to write this diary (which took forever….).

Megan (Year 5)

Today was sooo fun! When I woke up, me Ella and Alexis got dressed and made our beds: well, I did anyway. Once we were down for breakfast, I had a full English breakfast and little bowl of Cornflakes. It was yummy.

Me and my group went to a nearby farm: owned by Dan. Jess (a sheep dog) came up to us so we could stroke her. She was very gentle but also jumpy and licky! LOL!

After lunch we went orienteering with Simon. At first, we had a practice on the fields with the maps.

Later we walked to the forest and got into pairs. We were given maps and the game was about to start. I was with William and we worked pretty well together! Each Holly bush/tree had a green tag with a number and a letter on. We had to find and remember all of them, and the first to get them all right won! Me and William got eight correct so we won! It was so fun!

After, we went back to Glaramara and had our tea. I had pasta and cream with strawberry for pudding. Today was fun and I hope tomorrow will be too!

Izzy (Year 6)

In the morning we headed to canoeing and I had so much fun. At 1:30, we headed off for rock climbing. We played so many fun games like wall-tag, a traverse challenge and I even climbed to the top of a wall.

At 5:30, we had tea – I had potatoes and pork – me and Iris chatted for a bit then we had dessert – vanilla ice cream. When I was cleaning my plate Mr Burgess told me that my paddling skills were shocking and me and Iris laughed.

Brayden (Year 6)

At half nine I got onto the bus to go to King Kong adventure centre for climbing. I loved helping people get up the walls.

William (Year 5)

Today has been another exciting day as we have done indoor rock climbing and canoeing. In the rock climbing centre, there were four different types of climbing: Crazy Kong, Ice Wall, Clip In and bouldering. We did clip in and bouldering (personally bouldering was my favourite). As bouldering is without a harness, I felt less restricted, and free. I got to the top of four different walls and I got to hang upside down like a spider! There was a slanted wall which I got half way up before I fell which was further than everyone else and achievement I will remember for a long time. I started quite slow, unlike Harris who was super eager and shot up like a rocket! Eventually I gained speed and conquered my fear of harnesses.

Jessica (Year 6)

Today was amazing. I got up, with Izzy on the bed moving a lot. Anyway, for breakfast I had hash browns with bacon and beans.

For my activity today, we build a little boat with only pipes and tape. After we finished building, we did archery. Then somehow, I got a bullseye. I was very happy, Bobby even gave me a high five!

Jack (Year 5)

After breakfast, we went upstairs and got changed for ghyll scrambling. Then we went to the equipment store to put on our onesie and our waterproofs. Then we were nearly at ghyll scrambling. We got to the ghyll and the water was freezing cold! We were half way and we were just warming up…Suddenly, we found a dark and eerie, pitch-black cave which was under a road. We climbed out and walked home to Glaramara.

No diary entries tonight as the children had too many other things to get done on our last night. It has been a great week and the children have been fab...as always. I am sure the children are looking forward to getting home tomorrow but I also know how much fun they have had this week and the amazing memories they have created.
